Delusion has always been part of the human story. Unfortunately, humans seem prone to fakery whether that be in religion, politics, work, school, or among family, friends and in all walks of life.

Satan tried to sidetrack Christ in the wilderness, saying that if only Christ would worship Him all the riches and power would be his. However Jesus shunned all this and refused to be diverted from His God-given path. Satan was offering a delusional and fake matrix that we can all fall victim to. However, Jesus being God incarnate, overcame Satan, and we must resist him in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, however, hard that may be. With Christ at our side and if we remain in him, He will remain in us. Thus, we will have the necessary help and tools to overcome deception.

The world has always been a deceptive place for humans. Now wth 24-hour media, we listen to news outlets with right-wing or left-wing agendas. When we listen to the BBC, ITV, Sky, how do we know we are even being told the truth? News should be objective and just report what is going on. But now many of the news outlets and even many of the programmes we watch have a fake ‘Woke’ agenda. Then we have the anti-Woke news outlets and programmes, and so it goes and before long, you are swept up into this chaos. From one side against another, this is why we should use discernment and pray about these things.

It is the same when you follow so-called celebrities, and that indeed can be a web of deceit. I’m not sayng the celebs on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, TikTok, etc, are fakers. However, there are many false accounts out there claiming to be famous people. Pretending to be famous actors, musicians, and sports people luring fans in. Even going as far as to speak to you on Telegram, Google Chat, and Messenger. You can easily get sucked into believing these fakers are the real deal. But when you discover they are not, for one reason or another, you are left feeling cheated and deeply disappointed. Hollywood itself, is fake and delusional as is all of the entertainment industry. Satan will use all of this to make you worship the false idols in entertainment. We see the same in faith, sadly, where the prosperity gospel lures simple-minded and vulnerable people in.

Even friends and family can appear to love you, but you may find that even there are lies and delusion. To your face they may appear good and on-side, but because they are so-called friends and family, you fall for their deceit. When behind the scenes, they may be spreading malicious gossip about you. Like Judas’, they are betraying you, but ultimately it is about what is wrong with them and not necessarily yourself. You can be hurt when you find out they are not the people you thought they were. But as Christians, we should forgive them, as Jesus said, “Father forgive them, for they know not, what they do”.

As humans, we seem to be pre-programmed to addiction. I am sure God did not create us that way. However, He did give us freedom of choice. That choice is the path to follow good or evil, light or darkness. Addiction encourages dopamine – something in the brain which thrives when we are engaged in such delusional things.

What can we we do as Christians to help ourselves and others? Let us consider these helpful scriptures:

2 Tim: “Do not turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths”.

1 Peter 5:8: “Be sober minded; be wathcful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion ready to devour”.

James 1:22: “Be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves”.

God bless you,

Nick X.
