Selling Your House: A Christian Perspective.

by Nick Bishop
Selling a house is more than a financial transaction it’s a significant life event that often comes with emotions, memories, and big decisions. Christians are called to approach everthing in faith, wisdom, and integrity. Here are some biblical principles, and practical steps to guide you in selling your home with a Christ-centred mindset.
Before putting your house on the market, take time to pray. Seek God’s wisdom and peace in the decision. Proverbs 3:5-6 reminds us: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will makes your paths straight”. Ask for discernment in pricing, timing, and finding the right buyer.
Be a good steward, your home is a blessing from God, and selling it should reflect that good stewardship. Luke 16:10 says, “Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with very much”. This means taking care of necessary repairs, presenting the home well, and pricing it fairly. Honesty in real estate is crucial; be transparent about any issues and seek to honour God through ethical dealings.
The housing market fluctuates, and waiting for the right buyer can be stressful. However, Isaiah 40:31 reminds us, “But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength”. If your home doesn’t sell as quickly as you’d like, trust that God’s timing is perfect. He knows the plans He has for you (Jeremiah 29:11), and He is in control of your future.
Selling your house provides an opportunity to show Christ’s love. Whether through open houses or private showings, welcomes potential buyers with kindness. A simple gesture like a warm greeting or a note expressing your prayers for their home search can reflect God’s love.
If you are blessed with financial gain from the sale, consider how you can use a portion to bless others. Proverbs 11:25 says, “A generous person will prosper, whoever refreshes others will be refreshed”. This could be through tithing, supporting a mission, or helping someone.
Saying goodbye to a home filled with memories can be emotional. However, Philippians 3:13-14 encourages us to forget what is behind us and press forward toward what God has for us. Be thankful for the time spent in your home and look forward with faith and excitement.
In conclusion, selling your house with a Christian mindset means relying on God, acting with integrity and trusting His perfect plan. Through prayer, stewardship, and generosity, you can navigate the process with peace, knowing that God is leading you every step of the way.
God bless you,
