How Do You Celebrate Easter?

Is Easter just a time when you celebrate Easter eggs and cute bunnies, or do you celebrate Easter for Christ’s life of redemption and forgiveness? Our Lord paid for our sins with His perfect life so that we could be forgiven by Almighty God. Whether we celebrate this with chocolate or not, we must never take the death and resurrection of Chtist lightly, but in reverence, holy fear, and with great joy for the salvation of all who believe in Him!

You can visit any supermarket months before Easter and you will see shelves stacked with chocolate eggs. While this may be worldly and superficial for many, there is a deeper meaning that few perceive and celebrate, apart from Christians. The egg represents new life, so it’s no coincidence that Easter falls in Spring – a season for the reawakening of dormant life. The Resurrection of Christ is like the egg or the bud from which new life is forthcoming, just as Jesus sprang forth from the tomb to offer us life everlasting.

Jesus experienced life as a human being and he experienced happiness and joy from those around him. He also suffered greatly at the hands of the Roman and Jewish Authorities. Jesus was rejected in his home town where the people tried to throw him off a cliff. These were people who had grown up with Jesus, and perhaps even some of his family members. Imagine the night of the last supper, when one of his trusted disciples, Judas woud betray him. Consider the anxiety and horror in the mind of Christ as he fell upon his knees in the Garden of Gethsemane and asked his Father to take away what was to befall him. ‘yet not my will, but thine be done’ he prayed. Then Christ faced the humiliation of being paraded before Herod and Pilate on trumped-up charges before Jesus was tortured and executed most painfully, by crucifixion.

God Almighty, the Creator of our entire reality, humbled himself, even unto death! Remember, God did not have to do this for us. Yet beause of his great love, he gave His perfect life over to death, for our sins, and it speaks volumes! God’s love for his creatures cannot be contained, it is endless and boundless!

When you gather with your family and friends for an Easter meal, remember why you are gathering. Remember what Jesus did for us to make us right with the Father. So enjoy Easter, but as Christians, we must remember this period with reverence, reflection and deep devotion.

Jesus’ death and resurrection are the very core and heart of the Christian faith, and He is still changing lives today and winning converts across the globe. Easter is March this year, so may I take this opportunity to wish you a Happy Easter!

Finally, we look to scripture that encompasses the essence of this blog:

1 Corinthians 15-3-8:

“For what I received I passed onto you as of first importance. Or you at the first: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on that day according to the Scriptures, and he appeared to Cephas”.

John 11:25-26:

“I am the reusurrecton and the life, Anyone who dies believing in me will live, even after death. Everyone who lives in me and believes in me will never die”.

God bless you,
