Take Time, to Stop, and Take It All In.
by Nick Bishop
Do we ever stop to think, what a miracle it is to be alive? Every second, every minute, every hour, is literally a miracle, in the truest sense of the word!
Every cell, every sinew, every nerve, literally every fibre of our being, amazing. How our body, a biological machine keeps going is astounding. How our brain keeps all the functions of the body going, firing off messages via our nerve endings to various parts of our body, is awesome.
How many of us ever stop to think about the beautiful blue planet we live on? The functions of our planet with its perfect mix of gases that allow us to breathe, the bountiful number of plants and animals that share our world, the different landscapes on our world from the poles, deserts and rain forests, etc. It is thought that there are at least 8.7 million species of plants and animals, with 1.2 million yet to be identified, clarified and classified.
What about the fantastic universe we live in? Our galaxy is but one of billions. When we look up into the night sky and see the vastness of the stars, it really is “the power and glory” (God’s creation) as it says in ‘The Lord’s Prayer’.
Scientists reckon there are 100 thousand million stars in our galaxy alone. Not forgetting there 2,300 stars that incorporate other planets, (similar to our solar system), with worlds, seemingly akin to our earth. It blows the human mind and it makes you realize what an all-powerful God we serve.
Right now, as the latest probe, the ‘Perserverance’ rover looks for life on Mars, the question is always asked “Are we the only created life forms”?
Like many issues, this is something that divides the Christian community. You will find as many Christian articles supporting the possibility of other created beings in the universe, as you will denying this, prospect.
Certainly, Christian figures like C S Lewis and the late Billy Graham contended that God has created life elsewhere. Some say we should put our own house in order, before chasing off into outer space, looking for life elsewhere. And, when you consider all the destruction that man has sadly wrought to our world, they may have a point.
As Christians, it behoves us to cherish and look after this beautiful world we have been given. To look after our fellow beings, whether they are of our species or not. When you are driving in your car, out on a walk, looking at the night sky or watching a nature documentary, be thankful and humbled by the immenseness and glory of God’s creation.
I will close with the words from the hymn, ‘How Great Thou Art’. Also, some words from scripture, proclaiming the message in this article:
Oh Lord, my God
When I, in awesome wonder
Consider all the worlds Thy Hands
have made;
I see the stars, I hear the rolling
thunder
Thy power throughout the universe
displayed
Then sings my soul, my Saviour God
to Thee
How great Thou art, How great Thou
Art
Then sings my soul, my Saviour God
to Thee
How Great Thou art, How great Thou
Art
When through the woods, and forest
glades I wander
And hear the birds sing sweetly in the
trees.
When I look down, from lofty
mountain grandeur
And hear the brook, and feel
The gentle breeze.
Then sings my soul, My Saviour God
to Thee
How great Thou art, How great Thou
art
Then sings my soul, My saviour God
to Thee
How great Thou art, How great Thou
art
And when I think that God, his Son
not sparing
Sent him to die, I scarce can take it in
That on that cross, my burden gladly
bearing
He bled and died to take away my sin
Then sings my soul, my Saviour God
to Thee
How great Thou art, how great Thou
art
When Christ shall come, with a shout
of acclamation, And take me home,
what joy
shall fill my heart, then I shall bow, in
humble adoration,
And then proclaim:
“My God, how great Thou art”!
Then sings my soul, my Saviour God
to Thee
How great Thou art, How great Thou
art
Then sings my soul, my Saviour God
to Thee
How great Thou art, How great Thou
art.
Hebrews 11:3:
“By faith, we understand the universe
was created by God,
so that what is seen, was not made
out of things visible”.
Colossians 1:17:
“And he is before all things, and in
him, all things hold together”.
God bless you,
